All Parties Sikh Co-ordination Committee (APSCC) threatened the state government of a campaign from all the minorities if drafts a new minority commission. APSCC has alleged that some people dominating the state government have designs to draft a new minority commission.

“If state government tries to sabotage the minority rights of Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists, then all the rightfully deserving minorities of the state will jointly instigate a political campaign against the new minority commission draft,” said a statement issued by APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina .

He has appreciated the Union Ministry’s motion of taking over the issue of minorities with the State Government. APSCC Chairman pointed out that the government should extend the current National Commission for Minority Act 1992 in J&K, instead of drafting a new minority commission on the designs of some people dominating the state government.

“Some people with vested interests already having reservation quota in the State want to have the privilege of dual reservation status which will not be acceptable to us in any form,” Raina said.

He further said that Muslims enjoying the minority status at the national level should not be eligible for minority quota at state level in J&K where they are already a majority community. Like in Panjab, the Sikhs are a majority community and don’t enjoy the minority status as applicable at the national level.

“In J&K, as per the 2001 census, the Kashmir division of the state has 0.88% Sikhs and 0.11% Buddhists and others. Jammu division has a 3.57% of Sikh population  and 0.51% Buddhists and others. The census report clearly states that J&K has 67% of Muslim population, 30% Hindus and the remaining 3% belong to sikh religion is Sikh and other religions. So it clearly states that the Sikhs, Christians and Buddhists are the minorities and are in dire need of government benefits through the implementation of the NCM Act 1992,” Raina said. He added that the President of India, Pranab Mujherjee has given them assurance for early implementation of Minority status in state.

“If present ruling coalition government fails to do so then minority communities of J&K will be disappointed and would have no other alternative than to launch an agitation in the coming elections,” Raina threatened.

APSCC has decided that the further course of action will be setup after meeting with other minorities so that mutual decision should come forth in future.
