SRINAGAR: Kashmir teacher Rameez Ahmad Sudhan has been granted a Fulbright Fellowship by US Department of State for 2023. Of the six candidates selected for 2023 from India, he is the only one from Kashmir.

The programme begins in January 2023 in a US University with the first Orientation in Washington DC, from there the cohort of two will set for an enriching journey.

Rameez is an educator, and a community worker, who also writes for the newspapers. He is serving in the Department of School Education, Kashmir. A resident of Boniyar (Uri), he has been serving the education department for 12 years now. Sudhan and his colleagues were busy in some community work during Covid19 involving socio-emotional issues of the children, restricted to their homes because of the lockdown. Besides, he is part of the Jammu and Kashmir Red Cross Society as a volunteer and trainer as an emergency management professional.

“The Fulbright is a dream-like a watershed moment for me to realise the goal of personal growth, and professional development with the world’s best,” Rameez said. “I dedicate the fellowship to my family and friends who have been a great support in achieving the goal to get the prestigious opportunity.”

Rameez was selected through a rigours process of application and selection. His selection letter issued on August 30, reached him recently.

“On behalf of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, I am pleased to congratulate you on your selection for a Fulbright award to the United States,” the communication reads. “Your grant is a reflection of your leadership and contributions to society and is made possible through funds appropriated annually by the US Congress and, in many cases, by contributions from partner countries and private parties.”
