SRINAGAR: All four Kashmiri students who were apprehended by the authorities in Uttar Pradesh were set free on Thursday following the intervention of the J&K Students Association with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office.

According to a statement issued, Nasir Khuehami, the National Convenor of the Association, confirmed that the four students hailing from Kashmir, who were pursuing studies in the Law department at AMITY University, had been detained by Noida Police on the previous day.

The students, who had been residing in a rented PG accommodation for the past four years, were confronted by local residents on their way home and were subjected to physical aggression. In response, the students lodged a formal complaint, resulting in their subsequent detainment. Khuehami criticized the authorities for detaining the victims of harassment instead of taking action against those responsible for their mistreatment. The families of the detained students sought assistance from the association, urging for their immediate release.

Khuehami revealed that they had reached out to Ashwani Awasthi, the Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, concerning the detention of the students. They implored him to intervene and ensure the release and safety of the apprehended students. Following the involvement of the Chief Minister’s Office, all four students have now been released.

In the midst of these events, the J&K Students Association expressed their gratitude for the swift response and effective involvement of the Principal Secretary to the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister upon being contacted regarding this incident. The families of the liberated students conveyed their deep appreciation for the proactive intervention and compassion shown. This occurrence has further strengthened their belief in the principles of justice, they stated.
