SRINAGAR: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the Florence Nightingale Award 2024 to Dr Tabasum Irshad Handoo, a senior Nursing Officer from the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, in recognition of her outstanding service in healthcare.
Dr Handoo was one of 15 nurses from across India honoured for their contributions at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Dr Handoo, currently on deputation to the College of Nursing, has over 25 years of experience in the nursing profession at SKIMS. As an Infection Control Nurse, she played a pivotal role in managing healthcare standards and infection control, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her dedication to ensuring patient safety and supporting her colleagues during the crisis earned her this prestigious recognition.
The Florence Nightingale Award, instituted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 1973, recognises the exceptional contributions of nursing professionals across the country. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Smt Anupriya Patel, and other dignitaries were also present at the ceremony.
