SRINAGAR: Candlelight marches were held at several places in the Kashmir Valley on Thursday to protest against the killing of three security forces officials in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district.

These marches began at various locations across District Kupwara. These candlelight vigils, organised across Kupwara, Handwara, Lolab, and Karnah subdivisions, served as poignant expressions of solidarity.

Initiated at various spots across District Kupwara, protesters marched through the main towns and villages, attracting a diverse gathering of people.

In the Karnah sub-division, the candlelight marches concluded at the Line of Control (LOC) in Teetwal. There, community leaders, veterans, and representatives from civil society addressed the assembly, delivering speeches about the sacrifice of army and police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

In Kulgam, civil society members held a candlelight march today to pay tribute to Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of 19 RR, Major Aashish Dhonchak, and DySP J&K Police Humayun Bhat, who were killed during yesterday’s encounter in the Gadole area of Kokernag, Anantnag district. People gathered at the main market and the clock tower in Kulgam to light candles, conveying their condolences and solidarity with the bereaved families.

In Bandipora, civil society members, PRIs, employees from various public offices, traders’ associations, and the general public came together for a candlelight march to express their grief over the killing of Army Officers and a Police Officer.

People gathered at Harmukh Chowk Bandipora to show their solidarity with the families of the slain soldiers, condemning militancy and demanding an end to violence.
