SRINAGAR: A day after interacting with the Amarnath pilgrims in Srinagar, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited Nunwan and Pahalgam base camps and reviewed the arrangements at healthcare facilities and langars.

LG Manoj Sinha in Pahalgam interacting with the Amarnath bound pilgrims on July 10, 2022. The yatra has been stopped because of the ongoing rescue operation near the cave where flash floods triggered a devastating crisis on July 8, 2022.

Insisting that dedicated measures are being taken to ensure their safety and well-being, Sinha told pilgrims that providing better facilities for pilgrims is his administration’s top priority. He later decided to spend the night with them at Nunwan.

The LG lauded the commendable efforts and swift action of the Jammu Kashmir Police, Army, CAPFs, NDRF and civil administration during the rescue and relief operation for saving precious lives.

Earlier, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said during his meeting with the officials at the Nunwan Base camp, the LG was briefed about the rescue and relief operations, debris clearance, deployment of machinery and manpower, camp-wise breakdown of the pilgrims, besides the arrangements and efforts put in to facilitate the yatris.

At Pahalgam, he told pilgrims that efforts are underway to resume the yatra at the earliest. LG is accompanied by all the top officers from the Kashmir division.

The yatra is suspended as the rescue operations are on after a flash flood was triggered by a cloudburst on Friday killing 17 pilgrims. Around 36 are believed to be missing as 40-odd survived injured and are being treated at various hospitals across Srinagar and Kangan. Neither the administration nor the SASB has issued a statement offering details of the tragedy.
