SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that the administration and security forces would not rest until militancy and its supporters are eliminated from JK soil.
LG Sinha, addressing the Folk Festival organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Art Culture and Languages at Tagore Hall, stated that the Reasi attack, which left nine persons dead and 33 others injured, had triggered widespread anger among various sections of society.
“The anger among people is genuine. People should have faith in the great valour, courage, and intelligence of the police and security forces. We will not rest until we root out terrorism and its supporters from JK soil,” he said.
He also urged artists to play a role in eradicating militancy and its abettors through their various forms of art.
On June 10, nine pilgrims, including the driver of the bus, were killed, and 33 others injured after they came under attack by militants in the Reasi district of the Jammu region. The slain were pilgrims returning from paying obeisance at Shiv Kohri. The attack prompted the entire security grid of JK into action, leading the LG to chair a high-level security meeting in Jammu on June 11 and a Unified Headquarters meeting in Srinagar, where a series of counter-insurgency measures were taken to prevent similar incidents.
Notably, on June 12, two foreign militants and a CRPF man were killed in an encounter in Kathua that started on the evening of June 11 and lasted until the afternoon of June 12. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including a US-made M4 carbine and grenades, was recovered from the slain terrorists. According to ADGP Jammu Anand Jain, the slain terrorists were part of a newly infiltrated group, and there is a possibility of more terrorists being present in the area or region.
