Though the details of the meeting were not disclosed, the interaction indicated continued coordination between the Centre and the UT’s top leadership.
LG Sinha’s meeting with the Prime Minister came a day after he said that JK’s statehood would be restored at an appropriate time, as promised by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The meeting assumes significance against the backdrop of recent developments following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead.
Soon after the attack, India launched “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025, targeting and destroying nine terrorist camps deep inside Pakistan and PoK. This led to skirmishes between India and Pakistan that continued until May 10. Both countries later announced a ceasefire after the Pakistan DGMO approached his Indian counterpart and requested an end to hostilities.
As the situation stabilised, tourists have begun returning to Kashmir. Within 14 days of the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra, more than 2.5 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine nestled in the Himalayas.
