Srinagar

Life returned to normal on Sunday in the valley after remaining crippled on Saturday due to a day-long strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), ahead of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Kashmir visit.

All the shops and business establishments reopened and traffic is plying on all routes normally in this summer capital.

Ahead of the PM Modi’s Kashmir visit curfew-like restrictions were imposed on Saturday to prevent any demonstration in the downtown.

Pertinently, Joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had asked people to march towards Lal Chowk on Saturday to protest against the PM Modi’s Kashmir visit.

Earlier, heavy contingents of police and paramilitary personnel were deployed along all the roads, to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, restrictions have been imposed in downtown Srinagar day in view of the JRL’s call ‘Eidgah chalo’ on Monday.

Ahead of the death anniversaries of Molvi Mohammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone on May 21, the downtown has been put under restrictions.

Reports said that transport was not also allowed to move through downtown areas. However, the pedestrian movement was allowed in these areas.
