Barring Srinagar district, life returns to normalcy after a day-long strike in poll-bound areas in Kashmir, following the separatist leadership call against the municipal elections in Kashmir.
All the shops and other business establishments have resumed across Kashmir and traffic is on the roads. The train services in Kashmir have also resumed after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons. However, following the encounter, parts of Srinagar including Maisuma and downtown areas are shut to mourn the deaths.
Joint Resistance Leadership JRL had called for a shutdown on four particular days on the view of ULB polls. As there was a less turnout recorded, JRL has appreciated the people for the political maturity and commitment to the cause of self-determination shown by them in a comprehensive boycott of the municipality elections.
Meanwhile, the Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar following the killing of two militants, civilian and policeman in Fateh Kadal area of Srinagar district on Wednesday morning for ‘security reasons’.
An official said that telecom operators have been asked to suspend both the mobile internet and broadband services “as a precautionary measure”.
