SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday accused the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly of showing bias in favour of the ruling government, alleging that the House proceedings were being steered by the treasury benches. He described the situation as “unfortunate” for the functioning of the legislature.
His remarks followed comments made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a recent Assembly session.
Addressing reporters, Sharma said the Chief Minister’s language had caused discomfort among members in the House. He questioned whether Abdullah felt any regret over his remarks and said the Chief Minister should have personally clarified and defended his statements.
“They have no answer,” Sharma said, adding that he had raised the matter earlier and was reiterating it to seek accountability.
The LoP also criticised the National Conference, alleging arrogance within its leadership. He claimed that belonging to the family of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah seemed to foster a sense of entitlement and further alleged that the party had a record of internal conflicts.
Sharma additionally stated that the Chief Minister had not expressed remorse and questioned the role of the Speaker and the House in allowing such remarks to pass without action.
