Chief Minister Omar Abdullah distributing prizes to students in Kishtwar.

Blaming faceless enemies of peace, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said peace is paramount for progress and sustained  development and economic prosperity. He was speaking at the Annual Day function of Faredia Educational Institution at Kishtwar.

“It has been observed that some elements are trying time and again to disturb amity and brotherhood”, Omar said beseeching upon people to foil their nefarious designs aimed at disturbing peace. “Uphold the secular characteristic and strengthen the pluralistic fabric in the state.”

Omar said that a comprehensive and equitable development process is being carried forward by his government across J&K adding that inclusive development and upliftment of backward pockets are receiving added attention. He said various mega projects have been started in the backward areas to generate economic activities and give fillip to the holistic development.

“Entire Chenab Valley has been focused for all round development and prestigious projects in power, road communication and other sectors have been launched to address development requirements of these areas and create jobs for youth,” he said. He made a special reference to four power projects being set up in this region to generate about 3000 MW power which will open new vistas of economic development besides generating numerous job opportunities for the youth of the backward and remote areas.

The Chenab Valley Power Projects Ltd has already started implementing Pakuldul, Kiru and Kawar power projects while Bursur-II is also being taken up by this agency for execution. “This would open up the Chenab Valley for all round development and economic welfare”, Omar said re-emphasizing the importance of peace and tranquility for accomplishing the task of establishing these most prestigious power projects.

Omar said his government is pursuing with the central government sanctioning of tunnels in Kishtwar and other such areas to enhance accessibility and link up the remote areas with main highways. “We are hopeful that Vailo-Singhpora tunnel to connect Kishtwar with Kashmir Valley will also be sanctioned soon”, Omar said.

Omar announced Rs 25000 award for the participants of gymnastics presented by the students of Faredia Educational Institute besides Rs 1000 each to the students who spoke on various subjects on the occasion.

Kishtwar town was under a security blanket for last few days in anticipation of the high profile visit. Massive deployments were seen around. Prior to the start of the function, Omar visited the local shrine of Hazrat Shah Mohammad Asrar-u-Din Bagdadi and prayed.
