Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader from Jammu and Kashmir and incumbent legislator Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Saturday cautioned both Central and State Governments not to take plying of vehicles on roads as a sign of permanent normalcy. He said that uneasy calm in Kashmir is deceptive and misleading.

“If you think shopkeepers have opened up their shops, vehicles are plying on the roads and normalcy has now returned then you are living in a fool’s paradise. It is all deception. It’s better to make hay while the sun shines. Government of India which in a way directly rules the state of Jammu and Kashmir should engage all the stakeholders and find a solution to this long pending Kashmir problem,” spokesman quoted him to have said.

Tarigami who according to spokesman  addressed a press conference in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday lamented that present chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has left no stone-unturned in turning this piece of land into Jail. “I wonder is it same Mehbooba Mufti who along with me and her party members used to make clamour in 2010 about the arrest spree and killings of youth. Is it same Mehbooba who used to hit roads accusing Omar Abdullah led government of mis-governance, atrocities and killings? The same Mehbooba is now busy turning Valley into a big jail. People have been killed, maimed and blinded by this government. The government must understand that by incarcerating people it will aggravate the situation. Arrest spree, night raids, killings and blinding of people is not a solution to this problem,” he said.

Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami has further said that the situation in 2016 is quite different from 2010. “It is irony that District Magistrates from Kashmir Valley seemed to be in a competition when it comes to booking of youth under Public Safety Act. “The way PSA are slapped on people gives an indication that Deputy Commissioners of the districts are competing with one another and it also seems that government has given them a quota in this regard,” he said.
