SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, on Sunday, advocated the involvement of retired soldiers, officers, and policemen in the ongoing fight against militancy, stating that it was on its deathbed but the adversary was attempting to revive it.

He also mentioned that the J&K administration would allocate land in Kashmir and Jammu for the construction of Sainik Colonies to house families of fallen heroes.

Addressing a gathering in Jammu after engaging with veterans, veer Naris, and NoKs of slain soldiers, LG Sinha shared that four crore tourists had visited the UT in the past two years.

“1.88 Crore tourists visited J&K in 2022, and 2.12 Crore guests visited the UT in 2023. A peaceful atmosphere prevails in J&K, but our adversary can’t accept the peace and persists in efforts to support terrorism,” the LG stated.

He mentioned that militancy was on its deathbed in J&K, but the “adversary” continued with its designs to fuel it.

“In the recent security review meeting, I advocated that ex-servicemen, including officers, soldiers, and policemen, should be enlisted for the decisive fight against terrorism,” the LG noted.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia for the families of fallen soldiers, deeming it insufficient. “I will ensure that the amount is increased this year,” the LG affirmed.

Sinha added that this year, the J&K administration would allocate land for the construction of Sainik Colonies in both Kashmir and Jammu to accommodate families and NoK’s of fallen heroes. (KNO)
