SRINAGAR: Langate MLA Sheikh Khursheed has strongly criticised the Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ) for what he described as “selective solidarity” within the medical fraternity. His remarks come in the backdrop of an FIR being registered against Mehraj Malik, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and chief of the party’s Jammu and Kashmir unit, in connection with a case involving a woman doctor in Doda.

The FIR, registered by Jammu and Kashmir Police, accuses Malik of defamation, criminal intimidation, and outraging the modesty of an associate professor at a government medical college in Doda. The complaint alleges that Malik issued threats and made abusive, gendered, and derogatory remarks through social media platforms. He also allegedly entered the labour room without authorisation while livestreaming, which the doctor claimed was a serious violation of patient privacy and hospital protocol.
The complainant stated that Malik used phrases such as “ghaseetunga” and “will strip you naked,” describing them as direct threats to her dignity and safety. She also accused him of mocking her family circumstances during live videos, asserting that such remarks undermine her role as a public servant.
In response to the controversy, the DAJ promptly wrote to the Lieutenant Governor seeking action in the matter. However, MLA Khursheed expressed disappointment that the same organisation remained silent when Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan, President of the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK), was terminated from service by the same administration.
In a post on social media platform X, Khursheed wrote, “What’s truly baffling and disappointing is how DAJ has now shown promptness in writing to the LG regarding the issue involving the Doda-based doctor, yet the same association remained completely silent when Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan was unceremoniously terminated.”
Khursheed criticised the absence of even symbolic gestures from DAJ in the earlier case, questioning whether regional bias was overshadowing professional ethics. “Such silence is not just unfortunate — it borders on professional dishonour,” he said.
He added that while he may not agree with AAP on various political matters, Malik, as an elected representative, remains accountable to the public — a quality he implied is lacking in some professional bodies.
Malik has been embroiled in multiple controversies recently. In March this year, a Jammu court issued a non-bailable warrant against him in a separate defamation case filed by former minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori.
