The decisions were taken at a special meeting of the party’s Kashmir Provincial Committee held at the NC headquarters here. The meeting was chaired by General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and convened by Kashmir Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir.

Among those present were Additional General Secretary and MP Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan, MP Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Cabinet Ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Dar, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous, senior leader Mubarak Gul, party legislators, district and zonal presidents, constituency in-charges and other office-bearers.

According to the party, the meeting unanimously endorsed NC President Farooq Abdullah’s decision to hold a protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar to press for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

During the deliberations, party leaders maintained that the restoration of statehood was a constitutional and democratic right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and not a concession. They also referred to the Union Government’s assurances before Parliament and the Supreme Court regarding the restoration of statehood, saying there was no justification for further delay.
