SRINAGAR: National Conference Member of Parliament from Srinagar, Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, on Wednesday said that there is no question of having any differences with the party leadership, as he cannot help rumour mongers from spreading false information. He also identified two significant challenges for the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government: delivering effective governance and fighting for the restoration of rights taken from the people on August 5, 2019.
“I can’t help rumour mongers or stop them from spreading fake news. There is no question of any differences with the party leadership,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony at SKICC.
Regarding the challenges faced by the Omar Abdullah-led government, the NC MP said that the government must deliver while simultaneously playing the role of opposition. “The government has to oppose the policies of the BJP and the decisions taken on August 5, 2019. It must fight for the restoration of rights taken from the people of J&K while also delivering on governance,” Ruhullah said.
On Congress’s decision to stay away from ministries, he noted that while the party may have chosen not to join the cabinet, it is still very much part of the government. “This may be an internal decision of Congress, but they are part of the government. They may not be part of the cabinet, but they are very much part of the government,” the NC MP said, adding that NC won’t interfere in Congress’s internal affairs.
Ruhullah emphasised that the INDIA alliance, whether in Kashmir or the rest of the country, must fight for people’s rights and strengthen secular ideas—(KNO)
