SRINAGAR: National Conference MLA Javeed Beigh on Saturday praised the Budget 2026–27 presented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing it as “a budget that reflects fiscal responsibility, strategic investment, and a clear roadmap for long-term economic transformation”.

Speaking during the Budget discussion in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Beigh strongly defended the government against criticism from opposition parties and lauded the leadership of Omar Abdullah.
He criticised what he termed the “dual nature” of the opposition, saying those attacking the Chief Minister should remember that Omar Abdullah has been praised by former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh. “Our leader does not need opinions from such people,” Beigh said.
The MLA also targeted the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), questioning its record while in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party. “Today, PDP criticises our party and our manifesto, but what did PDP achieve during its alliance with the BJP, when Jammu and Kashmir had both statehood and special status?” he asked. Beigh added that his party had full faith in its leadership and its political direction.
Addressing BJP members in the House, Beigh said that special status formed the constitutional basis of Jammu and Kashmir’s relationship with the Union of India. “Those who speak about special status should read history. It was meant to protect the interests of our people and was granted by the leaders of India,” he said.
Concluding his address, Beigh once again praised the Budget, calling it “remarkable” and describing it as “a budget of vision”.
