Launching a veiled attack on the army and strongly condemning the Pulwama firing incident on civilians, the National Conference said that such incidents are highly unacceptable, and will only alienate people further.

“There should be an impartial probe in the Pulwama incident and we demand harshest punishment to anyone responsible” NC Spokesman said in a statement issued on Monday. “Uniformed men should show a lot of resilience and patience, there should be a difference between a civilian and a man in the uniform”, he added

“An institution that has brought laurels to the county should learn from their past mistakes, your one wrong move can bring the state back to boil” said NC Spokesman adding “In the garb of AFSPA you cannot simply go on doing what you want”

Recalling 2010 agitation, he said, “A series of events resulted in the sort of protests that you saw on the streets, and the origins of that lie in the fake encounter that took place in North Kashmir’s Machil area where a unit of the army took three people and killed them as terrorists infiltrating the area, when they had absolutely nothing to do with that”

“This incident provoked a lot of anger, which did not manifest itself on the streets immediately but simmered under the surface. But what it did do was it allowed the enemies of peace to start a campaign of protests. They started issuing calls for protest on every Fridays after prayers” he added

“In the course of one of those protests, a tear smoke shell hit a young man, who died and then you had another death and that spiraled” said Tanvir Sadiq adding “every death resulted in more protests and more deaths and the area of protests just spread and reached the point where virtually every corner of the valley was seeing protests on a regular basis”

“The cases like the Machil and Pathribal resonate in the valley, the wounds of which are yet to be healed” said Sadiq adding “If you don’t learn from your past mistakes then we are sorry you are only making things worse for the people who have sacrificed a lot to restore peace in the valley”

While appealing to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Chairman UPA Sonia Gandhi and defense minister A.K Antony to take strong notice of such incidents the NC spokesman said that we will not tolerate, nor will any civil society accept any such accesses on any civilian anymore.
