The Jammu and Kashmir government is implementing the National Food Security Act (NFSA) from Monday in the state.
With implementation of NFSA in the state, 74.13 lakh people will get kilogram of rice for Rs 3 and wheat for Rs 2 per month. However, out of one crore and 36 lakh souls, only five percent people will not get ration from the government on subsidized rates.
The three districts of the state Srinagar, Leh and Kargil will not be covered under the new food act as the digitalization process in these districts is underway and is likely to be completed by the end of this month.
However, sources within the department said, “the public outcry in parts of Srinagar against the controversial bill as separatist, religious groups and the opposition National Conference have sought its revocation and has became the main reason of not implementing this Act in district Srinagar.”
Director CAPD Kashmir, Abdul Rashid War said, “We are all ready to start the distribution of ration as per the NFSA in the State. Streamlining the process of ration distribution and linking of Aadhar cards with the E-ration distribution cards will benefit consumers and checking pilferage of subsidy amount.”
The Department after carrying out survey has uploaded details of the households of 19 districts covering a population of about 1.15 crore and is available on NDS national portal including their bank data.
“The consumers can check their details online in case if there is any discrepancy in the details they can contact the grievances redressal officers in their concerned districts and gets their details rectified;” War said.
“We have already published in local daily newspapers the names of the grievances redressal officers, along with full contact details for every district/ Tehsil,” War told KNS.
