SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a chargesheet against two accused in a JK arms and explosives seizure case linked to the banned militant organisation Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM).
In a statement, NIA spokesman said that the chargesheet was filed before the NIA Special Court in Jammu against Waheed Ul Zahoor, the driver of the vehicle from which explosives, arms, and ammunition were recovered, and another accused, Mubashir Maqbool Mir. Both accused were reportedly in contact with their Pakistan-based HM handlers.
“The seizure of explosives, arms, and other incriminating materials occurred on 30th June 2024 at a ‘naka’ (checkpoint) set up by security forces at Machipora, Rashidabad, in Baramulla district. Security personnel signalled the vehicle driven by Waheed to stop, but he attempted to flee the scene and was apprehended. A subsequent search of the vehicle and the driver led to the seizure of the items.”
It adds, “During the investigation, Waheed disclosed his links with HM, for whom he was working as an overground worker (OGW). Further searches at Waheed’s residence in Mujgung, Srinagar, resulted in the recovery of additional incriminating materials. The probe also identified Mubashir Maqbool Mir as a conspirator in the case, leading to his arrest. It was revealed that Mubashir was providing financial assistance to the accused.”
Investigations in the case, registered as RC-6/2024/NIA/JMU, are ongoing as part of the NIA’s efforts to uncover the entire conspiracy and determine the intended destination of the arms and other materials, the statement concluded. (GNS)
