SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Satish Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly that the department is maintaining continuous monitoring of the availability and distribution of LPG and petroleum products across the Union Territory.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, the Minister said that as per daily stock reports from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), supplies of petrol, diesel, and LPG remain adequate in the region.
He stated that recent geopolitical tensions have led to a temporary rise in consumption and panic-driven purchasing; however, he assured the House that overall supply levels remain stable and sufficient. He urged the public not to believe rumours regarding shortages.
The Minister said divisional and district-level control rooms are functioning to monitor supply chains, while regular inspections are being carried out to prevent hoarding and black marketing. He added that strict action is being taken against violators, including imposition of fines, penalties, and registration of FIRs.
Providing details of enforcement measures, the Minister informed that 3,442 inspections and raids have been conducted since 17 March 2026, resulting in the seizure of 252 goods/items, while 2,443 grievances have been redressed.
He further said that coordination between district administrations and Oil Marketing Companies is ensuring uninterrupted movement and supply of Motor Spirit (MS), High Speed Diesel (HSD), CNG, and LPG. District-level committees headed by Deputy Commissioners are regularly reviewing stock positions at various levels.
The Minister added that awareness measures, including media briefings and social media outreach, are also being undertaken, with 36 such engagements carried out between 15 and 24 March. Regular review meetings are being held to ensure smooth supply and effective monitoring across all levels.
