SRINAGAR: Police in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday attached an immovable property belonging to an alleged terror handler operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), officials said.
The attached property comprises 10 marlas of land worth nearly Rs 20 lakh located at Kehnusa in Bandipora district.
Police said the action was taken in connection with FIR No. 307/2023 registered at Police Station Sopore under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act.
The accused has been identified as Majid Ahmad Sofi alias Bisati, son of Ali Mohammad Sofi, a resident of New Colony Sopore. According to officials, he is presently operating from Pakistan/PoK as a terror handler affiliated with the banned outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and is allegedly involved in coordinating terror activities in the Kashmir Valley.
A police spokesperson said the attachment proceedings were carried out by Sopore Police in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, revenue officials and independent witnesses after following legal formalities.
Police said the action forms part of efforts to dismantle the financial and logistical networks supporting militant organisations and to curb terror funding in the region.
The spokesperson added that strict legal action will continue against individuals involved in terrorism, terror financing or providing support to militant outfits. Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid associating with anti-national elements.
