SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday urged that discussions on the restoration of statehood to the Union Territory be concluded without delay, allowing people to receive what they have been demanding.
Speaking on the sidelines of a national integration camp organised by the Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh NCC Directorate in Srinagar, Abdullah said, “Let there be discussions, it is a good thing. But we would want them to conclude soon and deliver what is being demanded.”
The chief minister welcomed the Centre’s recent sanctioning of infrastructure projects worth Rs 10,600 crore, including the long-awaited Sadhna and Mughal Road tunnels. “The Mughal Road tunnel has been a long-standing demand since the road’s completion in 2008-09. People want year-round access. Similarly, the tunnel to connect Tangdhar via Sadhna Pass has also been approved,” he said.
He said that more connectivity projects, including in Gurez, remain pending and should be taken up. “This Rs 10,600 crore is a significant investment,” Abdullah added.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah further urged National Cadet Corps (NCC) participants of the Special Integration Camp–2025 to act as ambassadors of peace and harmony by sharing their experiences in Kashmir with communities in their respective home states.
