SRINAGAR: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the legislative assembly on Thursday that work is ongoing on 45 heritage conservation projects, including forts and religious sites. The first phase covers Sufi shrines, temples, and other historical sites such as Ganpatyar, Jagannath Temple, and Dera Baba Ji.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that 73 additional projects have been identified for Phase-II, focusing on the revival, restoration, preservation, and maintenance of heritage and architecture at an estimated cost of at 160 crore.
Between 2019 and 2024, 15 projects were undertaken under capital expenditure (CAPEX), while 33 projects are in progress under the first phase of the scheme launched in 2022. Additionally, seven projects at the Mubarak Mandi heritage complex are under renovation and restoration.
For the restoration of Mubarak Mandi heritage complex, Rs 59.69 crore has been sanctioned for seven projects, with Rs 17.70 crore worth of work completed.
Omar said that Mubarak Mandi, remains incomplete since Ghulam Nabi Azad’s tenure. Abdullah said that an amount has been earmarked for its completion within three years.
