SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday defended the 2025 budget, calling it a “love letter” to the people of the Jammu and Kashmir while rejecting opposition claims that it was meant for the BJP.
“Whatever we say is labeled as a love letter. I am now very cautious, as everything is interpreted that way. But I own this love letter, even if the opposition claims it is meant for the BJP. I say it is a love letter to all parties, independents, BJP supporters, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Love letters convey affection, and I have great love for the people of JK,” Omar said while addressing the house.
“I will keep writing these love letters for the next five years.”
He said that acknowledging assistance from the Centre should not be viewed negatively. “The Prime Minister, and the Finance Minister, have helped the people of JK. Why should I not acknowledge that? What is wrong in expressing gratitude? I thank all those who contribute to the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Responding to opposition criticism that the budget was a “love letter” to the BJP, Abdullah said opposition parties naturally oppose everything in assemblies and parliaments. “We did the same when we were in opposition. But this love letter is not for the BJP; it is for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including voters of BJP, PDP, NC, PC, INC, and every other party. I don’t hesitate to own this love letter,” Omar told the house.
CM Omar said that the budget represents his government’s commitment to the welfare and development of all citizens, regardless of political affiliations. He emphasised that his administration would continue working for the people and that he would keep sending such “love letters” for the next five years.
