JAMMU: Speaking in the special session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly held in Jammu today, MLA Thanamandi Muzaffar Iqbal said the Pahalgam attack would be recorded in black ink in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed sorrow over the absence of security at the tourist spot and condemned the segregation of victims based on religion. He said, “Nobody said that it was a human life that was being sacrificed,” and called for unity among all citizens.
Choudhary questioned the role of police and security agencies, asking why they failed to prevent the attack if Jammu and Kashmir had been declared free of violence and terrorism. He stated that although they stand against violence and terrorism, they also oppose war. However, if war is considered a solution, he said, the people of Jammu and Kashmir would stand with India. He criticised the idea of demolishing terrorist houses as a solution, saying it implied that all houses in Kashmir would need to be destroyed.
The MLA emphasised that acts of terrorism should not be linked to the religion of Kashmiris. He said that seeking names and religions of victims during the attack was an attempt to spread disunity among citizens. He also mentioned that Kashmiri students studying outside the Union Territory felt threatened, prompting the government to send representatives for reassurance.
The special session was called after the recent attack in Pahalgam, which left several dead and wounded. The Assembly passed a resolution condemning the attack and calling for unity and peace in the region. Other members also expressed strong condemnation of the attack and pledged support for efforts to combat terrorism.
Choudhary closed his speech by expressing regret over the loss of humanity and prayed for the unity of citizens and the complete eradication of terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir.
