SRINAGAR: Away from his home, toiling to make ends meet, Umar Ahmad Ganie of Zaggigam village of Pulwama district cracked the NEET in his very first attempt, media reports said.

Working as a painter to support his family, Umar clinched success by scoring 601 marks in the NEET. He relied on self-study to fare better in the exams. Umar’s family unaware of his remarkable feat were informed by the locals of the area about his success.

Umar, who will soon be joining a medical school, left his home after appearing in the NEET exams and joined a local painter to fetch work in a neighboring village to support his family.

In a similar but different story twin sisters from a remote south Kashmir village have cracked the NEET in the very first attempt.

Identified as Syed Tabia and Syed Bisma, they are daughters of Syed Sajad, who leads the prayers in his Watoo village in Kulgam. The sisters were studying in a Srinagar coaching centre. Their father and the sisters insisted that proper coaching was the key reason that they could make it. They scored 625 and 570 marks.

Abdul Basit a student from Pulwama’s Chewa-Kalam village bagged the top position from Jammu and Kashmir and 113th at All India Ranking (AIR) rank.
