SRINAGAR

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party Saturday staged a Kashmir-wide protest demonstration against what the party called the “criminal negligence of the present government and total collapse of administration in the wake of recent snowfall.” The protest demonstrations were held at all the district headquarters of the Valley and the party leaders highlighted ‘the abject conditions faced by the people as a result of inefficient handling of the situation.”

In Summer Capital Srinagar, the protest rally led by Tariq Hamid Qara started from PDP headquarters at emporium Lane Residency Road and culminated at Regal Cowk. Besides Qara, senior party leader Muhammad Ashraf Mir, Khurshid Aalam and Altaf Bukhari participated in the March.

The party workers set the effigy of Chief Minister on which an electric bulb and lantern was hanging on fire.

Qara said the state government has failed to address the problems of the people. Stressing on the need of change in the governance system in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the problems faced by the people are a “direct result of an inefficient and insensitive government at the helm of affairs in the state.”

He said winter is a part of Kashmir’s life and so is snowfall. “The government generally holds meetings and issues press releases about the so-called response to snowfall but even few inches of snow buries the entire administration,” he said.

Mehbooba said the present National Conference-led government has taken people for granted and have been “always exploiting them for its political ends.” He accused the government of seeking permissions from Delhi for local administrative measures.

The party leaders in almost every district headquarters castigated present government and alleged that it has failed on every front to redress the problems of the people. They said that PDP “believes in clean politics and respects the aspirations of people and that is why it (PDP) delivered much more than what it had promised during its brief stint in the government.”

These leaders said that the present government has unlimited money for its luxuries but nothing for the benefit of the common man. “There is no electricity, no better roads, no water and no ration. People are yearning for good governance,” they said.
