SRINAGAR

Lashing out at ruling coalition government, the main opposition, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday said that the government has failed miserably to meet the crises that arose due to the snowfall in Kashmir valley.

Addressing a press conference Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former finance minister, Tariq Hamid Kara said, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was expected to visit and address the problems of the people but ‘he has worsened the situation by calling the officers for the meaningless meetings’. “No concrete work is visible on ground. Government has failed on its claims as the Chief Minster and his officers prefer to stay in their cozy rooms,” he said.

According to KNS correspondent while referring to the breakdown of services like electricity, water, and road connectivity in the wake of snowfall Qara said that the authorities have failed to restore the power and road connectivity in the valley. “Though in some parts of Srinagar and other districts the electricity and roads are restored but most of the Valley still reels under complete darkness and many areas are still not connected, “he said.

“We received many calls from different areas where people complained lack of action by the administration about the restoration of damaged electric poles, transmission lines and road connectivity, “he added.

Recalling that in 2003 the state received heavy snow fall and the system was restored without any delay. “It is the lack of accountability that has resulted in chaotic handling of even routine challenges, “he said.

“The Government should start making proper use of control rooms, snow cutters so that all the roads in the districts get cleared including the link roads and the roads in the higher reaches.

The snow has caused medical emergencies which are unattended and large chunks of population in rural areas are still not able to move from one place to another,” he added.
