In an emergency meeting, Kashmir Press Photographers Association (KPPA) Wednesday condemned J&K Tourism and Information department’s approach of not inviting them to a ‘first-of-its-kind’ event at Gulmarg intended to highlight the tourist spot to the world.
According to a statement issued here, President KPPA, Farooq Javed said that the renowned photojournalists of the valley were left “feeling ignored” after the authorities deemed its unnecessary to invite them to an event which was supposed to capture the beauty of Gulmarg in its snow-clad avatar and tell the world how scintillating the place was.
KPPA questioned the logic behind not inviting the valley’s photojournalists and asked how it was possible to capture Gulmarg’s beauty when the people competent to do it were left ignored.
KPPA blamed certain officials of tourism and information department for ignoring the crucial media fraternity especially the prominent and well known Photojournalists in a very important function held in Gulmarg.
“It has come to our notice that some officers entertain their kiths and Kins and project them as photojournalists to misled their higher officers,” the statement said.
KPPA spokesman termed this action of these officials highly condemnable and requested the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to probe into this matter immediately and take strict action against the officials.
KPPA in a meeting further decided to boycott tourism functions in future if no action is taken in this regard.
