J&K police remembered its 966 officers of JKP, 486 SPO’s and 131 VDC members who were killed since 1990 in J&K. The Police Commemoration Day function was presided over by the Chief Minister Mufti M Sayeed.

In his speech Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Wednesday said that it was essential for India to maintain a friendly relationship with its neighbours to become a superpower.

Addressing the audience at Armed Police Complex Zewan, the venue of the function, Mufti asked Pakistan to be vigilant and said that Pakistan is in search of survival.”

Mufti termed India an epitome of democracy and said that Kashmir was better off with India.

“Guns and bullets won’t lead us anywhere, I stick to my stand ‘Goli se nahi boli se’,” he addressed the participants, which also included Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah.
Mufti reiterated that there was no scope for communal violence and that pluralism was the only option to build a better society. “I appeal for harmony,” he said, “When in 1947 people killed each other everywhere, the people of the state showed up resilience and examples of communal harmony.”

He said that gun and bullets were not a solution for any issue.

Asking police to keep an eye on issues of crime and traffic other than law and order, Mufti said, “Police has to act on other issues like crime and drug addiction. Police should also look into the issues of traffic that has become a headache for every resident of the state particularly Srinagar.”

On the occasion Mufti termed JK Police a responsive force and said that JKP has always dealt with discipline, the matters of Law and Order. “They keep on facing stones and in-turn deal with it meekly. I salute the valour and spirit of our Jawans.” He also said that CRPF also had played an important role in maintaining law and order in the state and had always exercised utmost restraint while dealing with any situation of law and order.

Mufti also termed Sheikh a tall leader and said there was no comparison between me and him.

On the occasion DG Police K Rajendra said that 966 officers of JKP, 486 SPO’s and 131 VDC members had laid down their lives for the safety and security of the state and country.

He also said that JKP has evolved many police welfare schemes that will provide monetary help to the NOK’s of the slain personnel behind other scholarship schemes for their children.

Rajendra also paid tribute to slain S.I Altaf Dar who was killed by militants last week in Bandipora.

Behind the top brass of police department, fomer CM Omar Abdullah, NC President Farooq Abdullah, Transport Minister Abdul Gani Kohli, PHE Minister Sukhnandan Kumar also attended the function. However no PDP minister showed their presence at the function.
