SRINAGAR: Shopian Police in South Kashmir have moved for the cancellation of bail in 13 cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Officials said the step followed a comprehensive review of ongoing UAPA cases, which revealed that several accused persons, earlier granted bail by competent courts, had violated bail conditions and re-engaged in activities prejudicial to public order and security.

Police sources said the violations were documented through sustained surveillance and monitoring of UAPA-linked individuals in the district. The findings indicated that some of the accused had resumed contact with elements associated with militant networks or were indirectly aiding activities promoting unrest and radicalisation.

Authorities said the move reflects Shopian Police’s zero-tolerance policy towards any attempt to revive or sustain militant networks under any guise. “Legal relief cannot be misused to aid anti-national or unlawful activities,” a senior police officer said, adding that strict legal action is being pursued to ensure accountability.
