SRINAGAR: The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) on Wednesday said that private schools have been retrospectively charging fees for months when students were not enrolled in the institution.

The committee cautioned private schools against charging fees retrospectively for periods when students were not on the school’s rolls.

Justice (Retd) Sunil Hali, the Chairperson of FFRC, issued an order, highlighting that private educational institutions are either in the process of completing admissions or have already done so.

“There have been complaints from parents that some schools are retrospectively charging fees for months when students were not enrolled and did not receive any services from the school,” the order states.

In response, all private schools have been directed not to charge fees retroactively for periods when students were not on the school’s rolls.

Hali has mandated that schools should only charge fees from the date a student is formally admitted to the school.

The Chairperson of FFRC emphasised that any violation will be subject to legal action, which may include recommending to the government the withdrawal of recognition or affiliation of the school.
