The Jammu and Kashmir meteorological department has said that Kashmir will witness a fresh spell of widespread rain, and snowfall from November 14.

An official of the Met Department said western disturbance will yet again affect the weather system in the Valley.

“A fresh western disturbance will yet again affect the weather system in the Valley. Moderate to heavy rainfall/snowfall) is likely to occur from  November 14 to 17,” the official said.

Earlier, on November 7 a western disturbance hit the valley and draped it into whiteness.

As per the reports, it was the first time that whole valley went into darkness and trees and branches fell on the power supply lines snapping the electricity connections.

The sudden snowfall lead to sudden decrease in temperature, shuddering people to the corners of their houses plus  different heating arrangements were doubled.

Reports said that more than nine people including two army men have been killed and property worth more than Rs 100 crore has been damaged due to the snowfall.

For the last 36 hours, Kashmir has remained cut off with rest of the world as air traffic remained suspended and Srinagar-Jammu highway blocked due to the snowfall, it said.

According to the Meteorological department, Gulmarg received 140 cms snowfall while as other conspicuous destinations like Qazigund, Kokarnag and Srinagar recorded 48cms, 41.1cms and 24cms of snow respectively.

A weather department official said that the minimum temperature at Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, dropped to -5.2 degrees Celsius, while in the border district of Kupwara the night temperature was recorded at -1.4 degrees Celsius. The night temperature in Kokernag, south Kashmir was recorded at -0.4 degrees Celsius.
