SRINAGAR: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to inaugurate various infrastructure projects on Saturday, with a total estimated cost of Rs 2,236 crore, across multiple Union Territories and states.
According to Excelsior, the significant projects include 19 in Jammu and Kashmir and 11 in Ladakh. Rajnath Singh will launch these projects from Gangtok, Sikkim.
All the projects have been completed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
According to officials, as reported by Excelsior, Rajnath Singh will visit Sikkim on October 12 to celebrate the Dussehra festival with Army soldiers deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China and inaugurate 75 BRO projects across different states and Union Territories, 74 of which will be inaugurated virtually.
Of the projects to be inaugurated by the Defence Minister, the highest number—19—are in Jammu and Kashmir, followed by 18 in Arunachal Pradesh and 11 in Ladakh. The remaining projects are spread across other states and Union Territories, report suggests.
The projects in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to be inaugurated by Rajnath Singh include roads and bridges, among others. He has previously inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several such projects. These projects are expected to enhance military mobility and provide logistical support for troops deployed in forward areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, among other regions.
With the inauguration of 75 projects, the total number of BRO projects completed this year to enhance infrastructure development along the LAC will rise to 111, at a cost of Rs 3,751 crore.
