SRINAGAR: As the impending deadline of March 31 for water bill payments draws closer, the Jal Shakti Department, formerly known as the Public Health Engineering Department, is intensifying efforts to remind consumers to settle their dues promptly, aiming to avoid any potential inconvenience.

Officials aware of the matter said that the Jal Shakti Department has issued a stern warning to consumers, urging them to settle their water bills promptly as the March 31 deadline approaches.

Emphasizing the importance of timely payments, the department has cautioned that failure to do so could result in legal repercussions. Furthermore, the department has specifically highlighted the necessity for consumers to register their water connections with the department without delay.

“Those with unregistered connections face the prospect of legal actions being taken against them,” the Jal Shakti department officials said.

This directive underscores the department’s commitment to ensuring compliance with regulatory measures and maintaining accountability within the water management system. A Jal Shakti Department official underscored the urgency of measures to reduce non-revenue water losses, emphasizing the department’s dual focus on ensuring access to potable water under the Jal Jeevan Mission and implementing systemic improvements.

While acknowledging past delays in bill generation and distribution, the official assured consumers that mechanisms were now in place to facilitate the clearing of dues through manageable monthly installments, thereby easing financial burdens for households and businesses alike.

Additionally, the official reiterated the department’s commitment to deploying water meters, highlighting their pivotal role in promoting responsible water consumption and enabling consumers to monitor their daily usage closely.

The Jal Shakti Department remains steadfast in its mission to enhance water management practices and ensure timely bill payments, thereby fostering sustainable utilization of water resources for the collective benefit of all stakeholders.

In a recent directive, Anbreen Anjum, the Executive Engineer for Water Works Division in Srinagar, emphasized that consumers in the Srinagar district must settle their pending water bills by March 31, 2024. Payment options include online platforms such as www.jkphedwaterbilling.com, the MobiKwik app, or Paytm. Consumers unable to pay online can visit the office to settle their bills offline. Additionally, consumers with substantial bills have the option to pay in three installments before the deadline but will incur a late fee if they fail to comply.

Furthermore, the circular issued by the department explicitly directs consumers who have yet to register their water connections to do so without delay.

Failure to register water tap connections promptly will result in legal actions being taken against them, reinforcing the department’s commitment to accountability and compliance with regulatory measures.(KNS)
