The advisory, issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), urges the public to take necessary precautions to safeguard against heat-related illnesses.

Residents have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure between 12 noon and 3 pm, and wear light cotton clothing. People are encouraged to consume homemade drinks such as lemon water and buttermilk, and eat seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content. The advisory recommends avoiding alcohol, tea, and carbonated drinks, as well as stale and high-protein foods.

Employers have been asked to provide drinking water, shaded rest areas, and reschedule strenuous outdoor work to cooler morning and evening hours. Awareness campaigns are advised to educate workers on the risks and symptoms of heat-related illnesses. Vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly, pregnant women, outdoor workers, and individuals with medical conditions are advised to take extra care.

The advisory also outlines symptoms of heat stress, including dizziness, fainting, rapid heartbeat, muscle cramps, and confusion. It urges immediate medical attention if such symptoms occur. The public is encouraged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, keep living spaces cool and ventilated, and check on vulnerable individuals regularly.

For emergencies or assistance, the public can contact the District Emergency Operation Centre Srinagar at 0194-2483651 or 112 (ERSS). The advisory emphasises that these steps are necessary to ensure public health and safety during the anticipated heatwave.
