SRINAGAR: In a rare show of commitment to healthcare accountability, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo conducted a surprise midnight inspection of the JVC Hospital in Bemina to assess the quality of medical services and staff availability during night hours.
The minister personally visited various wards well past midnight, reviewing the presence of doctors and paramedical staff, condition of patient care facilities, emergency preparedness, cleanliness, and infrastructure, including maternity and emergency services.
She interacted with patients and their attendants to gather feedback, listened to concerns, and noted suggestions for service improvement. The inspection also included a thorough check of the duty rosters, with the minister issuing strict directions to ensure all doctors and paramedical staff adhere to the posted schedules.
“Healthcare is not a 9-to-5 service. Hospitals must remain fully functional and responsive round the clock,” the Minister asserted while addressing the on-duty medical professionals.
Itoo underlined the importance of consistent, patient-centric care, particularly during night hours when patients are most vulnerable. She also called for heightened accountability to guarantee that public healthcare institutions maintain high standards of care at all times.
The public present at the hospital appreciated the Minister’s unannounced visit, praising her hands-on approach and dedication to improving healthcare services in the Valley.
