The positions are open to candidates across the country, with selected individuals subject to placement anywhere in India based on the bank’s requirements.
The total number of vacancies stands at 600, which includes 586 regular positions and 14 backlog positions. These vacancies are distributed across various categories, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Unreserved (UR). Additionally, a specific number of seats have been reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), covering categories such as Visually Impaired (VI), Hearing Impaired (HI), Locomotor Disability (LD), and other specified disabilities.
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply. The essential academic qualification is a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification acknowledged by the Central Government. Applicants in their final year or semester of graduation are eligible to apply provisionally, provided they can produce proof of passing their examination by 30 April 2025. Those holding an Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) certificate or qualifications such as Medicine, Engineering, Chartered Accountancy, or Cost Accountancy are also eligible to apply.
The application process is entirely online and is open currently. The process will continue up to January 16, 2025. Candidates are required to apply through the official website of the State Bank of India under the careers section. It is essential to ensure the accuracy of the details entered in the application form, particularly with regard to educational qualifications. Applicants who have received grades in the form of CGPA or OGPA must convert these into percentages as per the prescribed norms and indicate the same in their application.
The selection process for the Probationary Officer positions will involve three phases. The first phase is the Preliminary Examination, which will be conducted on March 8 and 15, 2025. Candidates who qualify for the preliminaries will proceed to the Main Examination, scheduled tentatively for April or May 2025. The results of the main examination are expected to be declared by May or June. The final phase of the selection process will include a Psychometric Test, an Interview, and Group Exercises, also anticipated to take place in May or June 2025.
Applicants are advised to note that call letters for the Preliminary Examination will be available for download in the third or fourth week of February 2025. Those qualifying for subsequent phases will receive separate call letters accordingly. Details regarding the fee structure can be found in the official notification on the SBI website.
Special provisions have been made for candidates belonging to the SC, ST, OBC, and PwBD categories, with pre-examination training scheduled for February 2025. Call letters for this training will be issued in January or February 2025. Candidates must avail themselves of these facilities to prepare adequately for the recruitment process.
The State Bank of India has outlined specific documentation requirements for candidates seeking reservations. Those applying under the OBC (non-creamy layer) category must provide certificates issued between April 1, 2024, and the interview date. Similarly, EWS candidates are required to produce an Income and Asset Certificate for the financial year 2023–24, valid for the year 2024–25. This certificate must be available at the time of document verification during the interview.
