A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, however, declined to grant interim bail despite submissions from senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, who argued that Shah was “very sick”. The bench issued notice to the NIA and listed the matter for hearing after two weeks, a per The Hindu.

Shah had approached the apex court against the 12 June order of the Delhi High Court, which rejected his bail plea on grounds that he could potentially engage in similar unlawful activities or influence witnesses if released.

The separatist leader was arrested by the NIA on 4 June 2019 in connection with a case registered in 2017. The case named 12 accused, alleging a conspiracy to raise and collect funds for stone-pelting, damaging public property, and waging war against the Government of India.
