SRINAGAR: Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) are open for applications. The scholarships are available in the fields of social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and/or engineering, and health. The application process will continue up to November 1, 2023.

The Vanier CGS programme has 500 scholarships active at any given time. Valued at $50,000 per year, the scholarships have a non-renewable duration of three years. To ensure equitable distribution, the scholarships are equally allocated among three federal granting agencies, namely the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Selection for the prestigious Vanier CGS is based on three core criteria viz. Academic Excellence, Research Potential, and Leadership potential and demonstrated ability. Successful recipients of the scholarship receive substantial financial support, enabling them to pursue doctoral studies at leading Canadian institutions.

Applicants are required to seek a nominating institution, prepare, and submit their application packages. Internal deadlines for application submission vary across institutions; hence, prospective candidates are advised to contact their nominating institutions for specific dates.

By early April 2024, the programme aims to notify nominees of the results via email on ResearchNet. Successful recipients can anticipate payments to commence from May 1, 2024, September 1, 2024, or January 1, 2025.

Eligibility for the programme is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign citizens. Candidates must be nominated by a Canadian institution to host Vanier scholars, and they should seek a nomination only from the institution where they plan to pursue their doctoral studies.

Application documents for the Vanier CGS programme can be submitted in either English or French. If a specialized concept requires another language for expression, applicants are encouraged to provide an explanation in either English or French.

A complete Vanier CGS application package includes a ResearchNet application form, two letters of reference (each with three sections), the Common CV (CCV) with limited entries, research contributions (maximum one page), a personal leadership statement (maximum 2 pages for English applications; maximum of 2.5 pages for French applications), information about any special circumstances (maximum 1.0 page, optional), two leadership letters of reference (maximum 2 pages), a research proposal (maximum 2 pages for English applications; maximum of 2.5 pages for French applications), project references (maximum 5 pages), and transcripts.
