Quoting a senior police officer, GNS reported that security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir have been tightened to ensure there are no untoward incidents ahead of February 20, when the Prime Minister arrives.

“Besides upgrading vigilance on the borders, security forces are patrolling highways and other vulnerable spots from a security perspective,” the officer said, adding, “frisking has also been intensified in many southern districts including Kulgam.”

He mentioned that checkpoint inspections have been increased in Kulgam, with vehicles and bikes without number plates being seized.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu on February 20 and will inaugurate various projects, including AIIMS Jammu, the world’s highest railway bridge over Chenab, and north India’s first river rejuvenation project — the Devika river project — in Udhampur.
