The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said 27 cases of sexual harassments in government departments were registered over the past six years.
This was stated in a written reply to a query raised by MLC Surinder Kumar Choudhary during the on-going budget session in the Legislative Council (LC).
The government in its written reply stated that 27 cases of sexual harassment were registered since 2010 in the government departments.
Of the total 10 sexual harassment cases have been registered in the year 2015 while as six were registered in 2014 and four cases in 2011. “Two cases were registered in 2012 while as one each case was registered in 2010 and 2013 and three cases were registered in 2016 year respectively,” reads the reply.
As per the government reply only three persons including two in 2014 and one in 2011 out of 27 have been acquitted over the past six years.
“13 people have been arrested while as challan has been issued against 21 people and five cases sexual harassment are under investigation,” reads the reply.
About the reports of sexual harassment in Jammu University, the government in its written reply said there were reports of such cases but no case was found to be considered under the purview of sexual harassment except for the year 2014-15.
As per the figures, four cases of sexual harassment have been registered in Jammu University. “One case is pending because of the stay orders by the JK High Court and in one of the cases the offender was removed from the administrative and academic positions,” reads the reply. (CNS)
