SRINAGAR: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of JK Police said on Sunday that it had busted a sleeper cell module by conducting raids at around 20 locations in South Kashmir.
In a handout, the SIA spokesperson said that J&K Police has been maintaining surveillance on terror associates and overground workers (OGWs) operating in Kashmir. “Technical intelligence had indicated that several sleeper cells in Kashmir were in direct contact with handlers based in Pakistan. These groups were allegedly involved in transmitting sensitive and strategic information about security forces and vital installations through messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and others. The individuals were also involved in online radical propaganda on the instructions of commanders of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, posing a threat to national security and integrity.”
“On May 11, 2025, the SIA conducted searches at around 20 locations across all districts of South Kashmir in connection with the investigation of FIR No. 01/2025 under Sections 13, 17, 18, 18-B, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act at Police Station CI/SIA Kashmir. During the raids, substantial incriminating material was seized and several suspects were detained for further questioning,” it reads.
Preliminary investigations indicate that these individuals were actively involved in a terrorist conspiracy, spreading and supporting anti-India narratives aimed at challenging the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, while also inciting disaffection, public disorder, and communal disharmony.
