As it is intermittently snowing, mostly in the Kashmir periphery, officials in Srinagar have issued avalanche advisories again. Traditional avalanche prone areas have been asked to remain ready as in certain areas top civil administration officers have been asked to stay stand by.

Srinagar weather office said the capital city received 1.7 inches of snow. But snowing was mostly in peripheral Kashmir. Pahalgam received 20 centimeter, Qazigund 5 centimeter, Kokernag 30 centimeter, Banihal 34 centimeter and
Gulmarg nearly 2.5 feet till evening.

The snow has already forced a closure of the highway linking the valley with the rest of India.

In Srinagar Divisional Commissioner has issued high danger avalanche warnings for avalanche prone areas in Bandipora, and medium danger avalanche warning for avalanche prone areas of Baramulla, Kupwara, Uri, Kargil, Islamabad, Kulgam, Pulwama and Ganderbal districts.

Deputy Commissioners of Islamabad, Kulgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Pulwama, Ganderbal, Kargil were asked to advise people against venturing out of their homes during this period and keep cleaning the snow deposition from roof tops of their houses and bunkers to avoid damages. In certain belts, people were asked to temporarily evacuate the locations under fall line of avalanche and heavy snowfall.

In Ganderbal people living in Sonamarg, Sarbal, Nelgrath, Gagangeer, Razin, Naranag and adjoining areas were asked against venturing into slopes of forest and hilly areas of Kangan which are avalanche prone.
