SRINAGAR: In a significant development, the Supreme Court of India has scheduled a hearing for petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 on July 11.

“We want to invite the attention of the CJI to the petitions which are pending in the Supreme Court for the last four years and also towards the plight of … people, especially the youth who are in jails within and outside J-K without any trial,” said People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday.

To address the case, a five-member bench, consisting of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice B R Gavai, and Justice Surya Kant, has been constituted.

The PDP president has requested an early hearing of a batch of petitions that challenge the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019.
