SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday urged teachers to move beyond rote learning and equip students to face future challenges such as artificial intelligence and climate change, while addressing the Amar Ujala Inspirational Teachers Award ceremony in Jammu.
Speaking at the event held at Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, the Lieutenant Governor said forward-looking teaching is essential to prepare students for an increasingly uncertain and innovation-driven world. He emphasised that teachers must inspire curiosity, creativity and analytical thinking to help build a dynamic knowledge economy.
A total of 101 teachers from schools across Jammu were honoured at the ceremony for their contributions to education.
LG Sinha praised the teaching community for shaping character and nurturing talent, describing teachers as the backbone of society and the soul of the nation. He said inspirational educators transform classrooms into spaces that encourage inquiry rather than passive learning.
Highlighting the need for collaborative learning, the Lieutenant Governor said future success depends on teamwork and innovation, and classrooms should function as centres of shared research and creativity. He also advised teachers to look beyond rigid curricula and connect education with real-life experiences.
“In the age of AI, teaching is not about memorisation but about fostering creativity and innovative thinking,” he said, adding that teachers must offer students not just knowledge but limitless possibilities.
Senior officials, vice-chancellors of Jammu and Cluster Universities, representatives of the Amar Ujala Group, educators, students and families of award recipients were present at the event.
