SRINAGAR: With the focus shifting towards South Kashmir for the Wednesday polls, tensions have surged in the belt.

Reports from the belt said that a state run middle school that went up in flames during last night was a designed polling station. It was located in Padder village of Shopian. Not many details were immediately available. Police have registered a case and investigations have started.

A gang barged into the residence of Sheraz Ahmad in Sugan and damaged his house. Ahmad has been an ex-Sarpanch of the belt. Earlier he was shot at in his leg making him flee home. He has not returned yet. It was not known if the police have taken cognizance of the incident.

Firing shots were heard in Tukru village of Shopian, last night. It seemed as if the militants were closer to the residence of a Rural Development employee. No more details were known.

A similar incident was reported on Sunday when firing shots were heard outside the police station Yaripora in Kulgam. There was no loss of life or any property damage.

South Kashmi Lok Sabha constituency is going to polls on Wednesday. The contest is between Tasduq Mufti of PDP and Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress. The latter is supported by NC.
