Locals of frontier district Kupwara in N Saturday alleged that food grains meant for distribution among consumers don’t reach to them.
They accused authorities of mismanagement and misappropriation of food grains at Food Corporation of India Kupwara depot.
A group of locals from various villages of this district told local news agency that various consumers in their localities don’t get their due quota of ration as less quantity is being supplied to the concerned ration ghats by the truck drivers.
“The fact is that all forty local truck drivers enter into the FCI premises to load the vehicles. During this process, they misappropriate the quantity,” they alleged.
They added that under rules, only two trucks can enter into the premises for loading. “The authorities had directed these truck drivers to adhere to the rules strictly,. However, these truck drivers are flouting the norms and are using influence of other offices to pressurize FCI officials,” they said.
They appealed concerned higher ups to intervene in the matter so that consumers are not denied their guaranteed quota of food grains.
When contacted District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahagir said that he would look into the matter. “It is a serious matter. I assure you that matter will be investigated and anybody found guilty will face the music,” he said.
